I’m Ellen Long-Common, aka the uncommon writer. I’m a pagan, writer, foodie, coffee addict, and a genuine country bumpkin.
I’ve lived in a yurt, helped build a subterranean temple, walked on hot coals, shared a house with a bad wizard, run a vegan dessert stand, and worked for uncommon businesses including a fairy themed bar, a hippie retreat centre, and a witchcraft shop.
I’ve done a lot of weird stuff – not all of it good. But I firmly believe that an unconventional approach is necessary to create a life that works for you – a life you love.
What is Uncommon Writer?
In real life, staying mindful, healthy, kind, nourished, balanced and in-tune is not that easy. I’m so not into the tyranny of positivity. The struggle is real.
Like me, you may be learning to balance your commitments with your dreams. I hope you’ll find inspiration on this site.
Great writers often feel they’re being copied, and they’re absolutely right!
My favourite bloggers include some people I know in real life, like Claire from Fire Lotus Fitness, whose brand of body-positive, inspirational fitness and nutrition is perfect for me (she’s also my PT). Jenny and Nick from Health Wisdom Institute provide answers to some of the most important and misunderstood health and wellness questions – without the judgements. Lisa Lister of Sassy She has a style that makes her instantly recognisable – I think we all want that.
My other online heroes include Angela Liddon of Oh She Glows, whose recipes and personal updates I adore, and astrologer Chani Nicholas, whose site is just so damn gorgeous. I also love Mind Body Green, because what’s not to love?
My last shout out goes to Zainab of Serendipy Spin, a great writer and all-round wonderful hooman, whose influence I’m sure you can see in this post. Check out her brilliant and funny intro post – in my defence, I did warn her I’d be shamelessly borrowing from it!
If you have any thoughts or comments on the blog, I’d love to hear them. Submit your thoughts directly below each post, or get in touch via my Facebook page. Let me know if you have your own uncommon coping mechanisms, little wonders or insights into conscious, natural living. I’d love to hear from you.
